Election Results

By Judith Pannebaker BCC Editor

According to people working the polls during the last election, voters stayed away in droves. Of course the election only concerned residents in Precincts 1 and 4 so perhaps a low voter turnout was not unexpected.

In Precinct 1, challenger Sherry McLeod bested incumbent Ernest DeWinne by a mere three votes to secure a seat on the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District. McLeod came out on top with 34 votes - 52 percent of the total 65 votes cast - to DeWinne's 31 votes - 47 percent of the total.

In a section of Precinct 4, voters approved selling wine and beer both on- and off-premises in formerly "dry" parts of the precinct. Of the 263 votes cast for Position 1, the "ayes" had it by 159 votes or 60 percent of the total. On Proposition 2, 61 percent - 161 of the total 262 votes cast - decided they would "drink to that."

For the record, Election Day was Saturday, May 9, and Early Voting took place from April 27 through May 5.
