A series of five water workshops will begin on Saturday, May 9, and continue through August 22.
The workshops are a collaborative educational venture sponsored by Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, with support from Bandera Electric Cooperative, Hill Country Alliance, and the Ranchers and Landowners Association of Texas.
The May 9 session will be held at the BCRAGD offices at 440 FM 3240, Bandera, from 10 am to 3:15 pm. The cost will be $15 to cover lunch. The session will focus on aquaponic potential. Patti Taylor of the San Antonio Aquaponic and Transfarming Group will be the lead speaker. Josh Goode from the same organization will lead a System Build Workshop, demonstrating how to construct and use an aquaponic system on your property.
The session will include an optional field trip to A Garden in Every Home with host Andrea McGilvray.
The second workshop, entitled Residential Water Conservation is set for Tuesday, May 12, from 6-8 pm at Mansfield Park Rec Center. Cost will be $15 for the meal.
Dr. Calvin Finch will give a presentation on landscape irrigation and greywater use. BCRAGD will share domestic conservation techniques. Native American Seed will talk about native plant selection and raingardens. Parts of the workshop will earn participants CEUs.
Future sessions will be held in June and August and will cover agricultural water conservation, abandoned well education and plugging, and rainwater potential.
Ag water conservation will be held at Mansfield Park on June 3 from 10 am to 3 pm, with a $15 fee. Well plugging will meet at BCRAGD offices on August 11 from 6-7:30 pm with no fee. The rainwater program will include a rainwater catchment system build with the Rainwater School. It will be held on Saturday, August 22 at BCRAGD from 8 am to noon. The fee is $80 per person.
