H-E-B recalls possibly contaminated nuts

By Judith Pannebaker BCC Editor

Due to a potential Salmonella contamination, a food and nut producer based in Boerne has initiated a voluntarily recall of its Macadamia nut products. Texas Star Nut and Food Co. Inc. is recalling Nature's Eats Natural Macadamia Nuts, Lot Code #31435001. The recalled product was distributed only to H-E-B stores in Texas and was sold between Dec. 30, 2014 and March 20.
The company initiated the recall after administrators with the United States Food and Drug Administration received a report that Salmonella had been detected in a random sampling of the Nature's Eats Natural Macadamia Nut product. This routine sampling, conducted by the FDA, revealed the presence of the bacteria in the finished products.
The product, six-ounce cellophane bags of Nature's Eats Natural Macadamia Nuts, has "Best Before 12/23/2015" located on the bottom of the nutritional label on the back of the bag. The only potential lot contains the code #31435001.
As yet, no illnesses have been reported in connection to this product.
The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as investigations continue to determine the cause of the Salmonella contamination.
