BHS Academic Decathlon Team advances to State

The Bandera High School Academic Decathlon Team came home winners on Feb. 1 from the regional competition in Corpus Christi. The team advanced to the state meet to be held in San Antonio on Feb. 27-28. Sponsors are Dan Zavorka, left, and Susan McKinney, at right.

The Bandera High School Academic Decathlon team traveled to Corpus Christi over the weekend of Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 for their regional competition. The team placed second out of their region and will advance to state competition, which will be held in San Antonio on Feb. 27-28.
The team members for the Honors Division included senior Katelyn Randolph, junior Aaron Yarbrough and freshman Josh Ellingson.
Winners for the Scholastic Division included junior Elizabeth Powers, seniors Shay McMullan and Meghan Salley
The Varsity Division included junior Emilee Mason and sophomore Cole Warren
Randolph placed first in math, third in language and literature, first in essay, third in social studies and first in science. Randolph was the third place overall competitor in her division
Teammate Yarbrough placed third in interview.
Powers placed third in math and second in speech. McMullan placed second in math, third in essay, and first in interview with a perfect score of a 1,000.
Mason placed third in music and second in science. She also earned a first in math with the highest score over all competitors, and second place overall for her division.
Warren won thirds in both music and Math.
The three alternates who traveled with them were sophomore Matthew Randolph, freshman Blake Kromer, and junior Seva Nix.
