Each year, the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association recognizes a "Key Employee," based on nominations from its 1,600 member companies around the country.
This year's National Key Employee is Jody Rutherford, who also serves as Precinct 4 Commissioner for Bandera County. The honor recognizes Rutherford's dedicated service to the company, the industry and to his community over the last 53 years of his employment.
Rutherford serves as the Eastern Division Supervising Engineer for Southwest Texas Telephone Company. In March, he and his wife, Carolyn, will accompany Gary Gilmer, president of Southwest Texas Telephone Company, to Phoenix, Arizona, where Rutherford will receive his award at the 2015 NTCA Convention.
He was raised and attended school in Rocksprings. He started his career with Southwest Texas Telephone Company in Rocksprings and later transferred to the Eastern Division, which covers the exchanges of Utopia, Vanderpool and D'Hanis as supervising engineer.
"Through the years, Jody has been very active giving of his time and service to many different organizations in the Utopia area," said a company spokesman. "Join us in congratulating Jody for being recognized for his achievements!"
