Bandera library renews digital eBooks subscription

By John Hegemier Library director

The Bandera Public Library has renewed its annual membership with the Lone Star Digital Library. This membership will continue to allow patrons of the Bandera Public Library to download eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video. Best of all - it's free! Library card holders in good standing can borrow and enjoy digital media anytime, anywhere by clicking on the Lone Star Digital Download link. This link is located on the homepage of the library's website - www.banderalibrary.org.
Users are encouraged to explore the Lone Star Digital Library's website. Almost all smart phone, tablets, and computers are fully capable of utilizing this service. After a title is downloaded to your device you have two weeks to enjoy them. After the two weeks have passed titles will automatically expire. No action is required to return borrowed items. And, there are no late fees!
Many patrons enjoy the ease and convenience that downloadable books offer.
Some of these advantages are as follows:
• almost instantaneous delivery - you can download and start reading books within minutes.
• Ebooks are portable. You can carry more than one book without worrying about their weight.
• You can read ebooks everywhere, on the bus, train, airplane, and while standing in line.
• Ebooks can show links, for easy access to more information and related websites.
• Ebooks are searchable.
• Ebooks can be interactive and contain audio, video and animations, which can enhance the message that the author is trying to convey.
• Fonts in ebooks can be resized, making it easier to read for people with aging eyes.
• And finally, one thing I especially like about reading from a tablet - you don't have to hold the book open while you eat.
Sometimes, especially when the title has only recently been released, you will be asked to put a hold on the book you want. When the book becomes available you'll receive an email notifying you. Some people actually find that waiting for the desired book can be kind of exciting and it "almost feels like Christmas" when an email arrives informing you that your book is ready.
The consortium of Hill Country libraries is constantly adding new and popular books to the collection. Now there are more than 7000 titles to choose from. Helpful tools and information are readily available by clicking the Help button located on the Lone Star Digital Library's website. As always the staff at the library will happily work with patrons who wish to explore this service.
