Cancer group offers support through education

The Medina Area Cancer Support Group meets at 7 pm, the first Monday of the month in the Medina Community Library on Highway 16 North.

The group and monthly presentations are geared for cancer survivors, caregivers, those going through treatment and anyone interested in learning more about the disease. “We always have a great time sharing, listening and loving those who attend,” said group facilitator Robert Gladding.

The Jan. 5 program will feature speaker Maureen Valencia from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Valencia heads up the cancer support outreach program. Through the use of video, she will explain the MD Anderson Network to the group.

According to Gladden, November’s program was a little different than usual because it centered on the therapeutic value of music. “We had the privilege of listening to Carole Boyd share many of the songs she has written over the years and tell how she got so involved in music,” Gladden said, adding, “We were all blessed by her songs and music.”

He extended a special invitation to Bandera residents who might benefit from Valencia’s program on Jan. 5 for the Medina Area Cancer Support Group. “All you in Bandera are most welcome to join with us that night and enjoy the friendship, coffee, cookies and good time.”
