This shows just one of six state championship banners earned by Bandera High School FFA shooters.

The Bandera FFA blasted away the competition at the State Ag 381 Clays Shooting event this year, bringing home five State Championships and one Reserve State Championship. The event was held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, on June 9 and 10. Bandera students shot both sporting clays and trap.
The Bandera FFA students shoot as individuals and as teams. The teams are comprised of three or four boys or girls. They can also compete as a mixed gender team, with at least one team member having to be a female.
This year, the Bandera FFA competed with six teams.
Male Sporting Clays and Male Trap, made up of Hunter Copeland, Calvin Walker Starnes, Austin Carroll and Cody Jacobsen, earned a state championship and reserve state championship, respectively.
The Bandera Female Sporting Clays and Female Trap teams included Courtney Kuykendall, Hailey Schmidt and Victoria Golightly. Both teams brought home state champion banners.
In addition to these teams, participants combined their scores for Mixed Gender Sporting Clays and Mixed Gender Trap. Students competing in the clays were Hunter Copeland, Calvin Walker Starnes, Courtney Kuykendall and Austin Carroll. The Mixed Gender Trap team was composed of Hunter Copeland, Calvin Walker Starnes, Courtney Kuykendall and Hailey Schmidt. Both teams are state champions.
Individually, Calvin Walker Starnes shot off for a tie for high individual in Male Sporting Clays, taking second place by one clay. Starnes also tied for second in Male Trap. Hailey Schmidt was second in Female Trap and Courtney Kuykendall third in Female Sporting Clays.
"These students have worked hard all year to perfect their skills, also shooting for Bandera 4-H," said Coach Russell Kuykendall.
