Scam of the week
By Carolyn B. Edwards BCC Staff Writer
It used to be said there were only two things you could count on - death and taxes. We can now add to that, the scam of the week.
A concerned Lakehills resident called to let us know that she has received a couple of calls recently regarding compensation for certain surgeries.
The callers said the state medical department may offer compensation to persons suffering negative effects from a list of surgeries.
"Luckily, I hadn't had any of the surgeries on the list, so I wasn't tempted to listen further," said our Lakehills informant. "However, I got to wondering what might happen if they had called someone who had had the surgeries in question."
We have no doubt that the scammers would have required certain financial information and account numbers and would have soon collected funds illegally.
So, once again, we urge you to never give your personal information to anyone over the phone.
