Earth-Kind landscaping program

By Sam Womble Extension Agent

Mark your calendar for an informative program addressing Earth-Kind landscape principles with particular emphasis on water conservation and plant selection Thursday, April 17 from 6:30-8 pm at the Mansfield Park Recreation Center, 2886 Hwy 16N in Bandera.
"Earth-Kind landscape principles involve using research-proven techniques to protect natural resources and the environment" said Sam Womble, Bandera County Extension Agent. In most instances, a blend of organic as well as traditional gardening and landscaping practices are implemented. Earth-Kind landscaping encourages water conservation, reduction of fertilizer and pesticide use, energy conservation and reduction of wastes entering landfills.
The program will be presented by Dr. Larry Stein, Extension Horticulturist from Uvalde. Dr. Stein will specifically discuss design, plant selection with Texas Superstar varieties, irrigation, mulching and fertilization considerations.
The program will be worth .5 hour of IPM CEU credit. Cost is $10/person and includes program materials and refreshments. Please contact the Bandera County Extension Office at 830-796-7755 by Friday, April 11, to sign up.
