BMS sets parent meeting about new graduation requirements
Parents of current eighth grade students are invited to attend a meeting about changes to course selection for students entering high school in the fall of 2014 due to HB 5. This meeting will be held at Bandera Middle School on Monday, April 7 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria.
"This is a great time for parents and students to ask questions about the new requirements for graduation and course selection for next school year," stated BISD Testing Coordinator Bonnie Hale.
Students currently in the 8th grade will be the first group required to graduate under the Foundation High School Program created by House Bill 5. Parents who wish to preview information about HB5 and the new graduation plans prior to the April 7 meeting, may click on the link on the BISD website under the "Family and Students" page.
One of the biggest changes to impact high school students' course selection, HB 5 changes the requirements for graduation starting with freshmen entering high school in the fall of 2014.
This meeting will help explain the changes to the new graduation plans. It will give students and parents information about how to select courses to satisfy those requirements.
Bandera High School Elective Department heads will also be present to describe the elective areas from which students can select courses.
There will also be clarification regarding the requirements for college and career readiness outlined in HB 5.
