BHS band solos & ensembles bring home 34 First Division medals
The Bandera High School Band competed in the Region XI Solo and Ensemble Contest on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in Comfort. Members of the Bulldog Band brought home 34 First Division medals in three classes.
Advancing to the state level competition by receiving a Division 1 (Superior) rating on Class 1 music are the saxophone ensemble of Javier Rodriguez, Greer Schantz, Connor Short and Bryana Yates. Also advancing to state level competition by receiving a Division 1 rating is the brass quintet made up of Skyler Brown, James Hulsey, Austin Raby, Kyle Redwine and Kodie Ryan.
Other students receiving a Division I rating (Superior) were: Emily Sampson, Class II flute solo; Michael Cummins, Class III alto saxophone solo; Reilly Butler, Class III trumpet solo and a Class 3 brass quartet composed of Tim Dupre, Donley Morrow, Dustin Paradee and Mathew Randolph.
The BHS Jazz Band competed in the Medium Ensemble category and earned a First Division rating. Members of the jazz band are Tristan Adamson, Andrew Bachman, Skyler Brown, Phillip Garcia, James Hulsey, Stephen Marines, Tyler Mayhew, Wyatt Overley, Austin Raby, Kyle Redwine, Javier Rodriguez, Greer Schantz, Connor Short Sean Stewart, Jenny Watson, Quintyn Williams, Bryana Yeates, and Dana Zavorka.
Students who earned a Division 2 (Excellent) rating include Mathew Randolph, Class III trombone solo; Jenny Watson, Class 2 piano solo; a Class 1 clarinet trio made up of Myranda Moreno, May Roldan and Grace Smith. A Class 2 trombone quartet made up of Jacob Carrillo, Phillip Garcia, Sterling Gardner and Austin Raby also earned a Division 2 rating.
Students who also participated in the contest were Bailey Alf, Gunnar Gard and Dana Zavorka performing a Class 1 trumpet trio.
