During a regular meeting on Thursday, Jan. 23, County Judge Richard Evans, left, presented musician Dave Kemp with the 2014 Commissioners Court Distinguished Service Award. A native of Tennessee, Kemp, like so many before and after, got to Texas as fast as he could. Since arriving in Bandera, he's entertained at the Mayan, Flying L, Running R, Silver Spur and Rancho Cortez guest ranches; Medina's Great Hill Country Pumpkin Patch; Bandera's Cowboys on Main and Kendall County's Enchanted Springs Ranch, among other venues. Kemp also lends his prodigious guitar talent to the "Cowboy Camp" pickers at the Frontier Times Museum; the Cowboy Capital Opry, held monthly at the Silver Sage Community Center; and with bands that include the Drugstore Cowboys, Duke Davis & Buckshot and Chris Wall. Congratulations from the Courier, Dave Kemp. May you keep strummin' and singin' for many years to come.
