First forensic blood alcohol testing lab accredited

The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) has announced the accreditation of its first Texas-based blood alcohol testing laboratory to ISO/IEC 17025 as part of the A2LA Forensic Accreditation Program.
In November 2013, A2LA was approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety and Corrections as a 'Recognized Accreditation Body' for the accreditation of laboratories performing forensic analysis of physical evidence for use in a criminal proceeding, in accordance with Texas Administrative Code Title 37, Part 1, Chapter 28, Subchapter 1 Accreditation.
By obtaining accreditation with A2LA, Fondren Forensics Inc. may now pursue accreditation from DPS, which will allow accredited testing performed by the laboratory to be admissible in criminal proceedings.
Located in Bedford, Fondren Forensics Inc. - www.fondrenforensics.com - received its initial accreditation on Dec. 30, 2013 after a thorough review of their quality management system, staff and testing activities. When asked about the experience, laboratory director Lisa Fondren commented, "The accreditation process with A2LA has been a wonderful experience. They are personable and responsive in all dealings. The professionalism I have received from their staff, trainers and assessors is truly beyond the ordinary. I highly recommend this organization."
A2LA accreditation programs are internationally-recognized and have also received federal and state recognitions as described on the website, http://www.a2la.org/recognition/dom_recog.cfm.
