Board extends Howell's contract

The Bandera ISD board of trustees met for their regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 6, in the Administration Building.
Their key decision of the night was to extend the contract of Superintendent Regina Howell for another year. Howell served as interim superintendent for the district beginning in May of 2011 following the resignation of Kevin Dyes. In March 2012 Howell was named superintendent. At that time she had worked in the district for 16 years as an assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent.
Trustees present for the meeting were, president Dr. Barbara Skipper, Laurie Neff, Laurie Palacios, Don Miller, Brittany Hicks, Heidi Battle and Bo Mansfield.
The pledges to the United States and Texas flags were led by students from Bandera High School.
In honor of Board Appreciation Month, the BISD trustees were recognized for their service to the students, teachers and community.
Howell presented the Superintendent's Report which included an update on Average Daily Attendance,recognition of the Cross Country teams and coaches, and the State of the District report.
Under the regular agenda the board voted to:
• approve the Board of Trustees Code of Ethics Resolution,
• approve the purchase of band uniforms.
• approve the Resolution on Commitment of Fund Balance.
• approve the General Fund Budget Ammendment #2, and
• accept the property bids presented.
The Board adjourned to closed session at 7:13 pm pursuant to Section 551.074, deliberation about the evaluation and contract extension of the superintendent.
The Board reconvened in open meeting at 8:21 pm from closed session, during which they approved the extension of the superintendent's contract.
