BHS track closed for renovation

After the conclusion of football season on Nov. 8, the Bandera High School track will be closed for renovation, the school district announced this week. No patrons or students will be allowed on the track during the construction.
The life span of the current track at BHS has been exceeded and to assure the safety of student athletes, the track surface will be replaced with a more durable polyurethane surface material. According to sports construction experts, the adhesive material that connected the rubberized track surface with the asphalt sub-base, or underlayment, had become "compromised" and portions of the surface are not acceptable for competition use.
No patrons or students will be allowed on the field to ensure the proper con-struction and curing of the new track. Since its original construction, the track has proven to be a popular place for the area's walkers, joggers and runners to get in their fitness regimen.
Construction activity will take place over the course of an extended period of business days, but could extend into the evenings should weather conditions warrant. Should evening work be necessary, stadium lighting will be required.
The track is expected to re-open on Jan. 17, 2014.
