Vote for Shutes for Position 6, BISD

Announcement

My husband, Bill, and I have lived in Bandera County since 2008. I love Bandera County and its people. I am eager to put my skills, training and experiences to work with the Bandera ISD Board of Trustees.
It is my goal to serve our Bandera ISD through what I have achieved in my life as a result of a sound education. I studied early childhood development and taught preschool. I have a deep respect for all that being a teacher entails.
For the last 20 years I have been with Micro-TES, a boutique biotech company, where I currently manage the microbial lab.
I graduated from St. Mary's University in 1993 with honors, majored in political science and hold a minor in earth science. My last summer at St. Mary's was spent at the Edwards Underground Water District (EUWD), where as an intern, I was instrumental in the development and implementation of the "Water Wizards" educational program.
Moving forward, there are complex and challenging decisions to be made by the Bandera ISD Board of Trustees. Budget cuts in 2011 have resulted in Bandera ISD's loss of base revenue of more than $3 million dollars for 2011 and 2012. There were few service areas unaffected. Guidance counseling, athletics and testing materials are examples of how widespread the cuts have been.
I want to be part of the team that maintains the quality of educational programs while addressing the district's lost revenue. I hope to bring fresh eyes and ears to a team striving to provide excellent educational opportunities for all students and contribute to creative solutions for our school district.
I understand the value of public education. Did you know that nearly 50 percent of our students live in poverty? A good solid public education can change that; it remains the best vehicle out of poverty.
We have a great school district with much to be proud of, the dedication of our teachers, administrators and staff; our facilities; the many and varied programs offered to students; the wide range of community partnerships; and, of course, the accomplishments of our students.
"I am asking for your support as a voter, to help me in accomplishing this goal of becoming a member of the Bandera ISD's Board of Trustees."
