Cowboy Capital marker dedication

By Judith Pannebaker BCC Editor

Members of the Bandera County Historical Commission urge everyone to attend the dedication of the Texas Historical Society "Cowboy Capital of the World" marker at 10 am, Saturday, August 29, at Western Trail Heritage Park. The dedication will be held prior to the 11 am kick-off of the "Celebrate Bandera," featuring the Thurmond Longhorn Cattle Drive.

With the passage of House Resolution 2585 in July, the Texas State Legislature approved a resolution that once and for all, named Bandera as the Cowboy Capital of the World.

An application for the title was forwarded to the THC in November 2012.

After the resolution passed, an elated Elenora Dugosh Goodley said, "Bandera can no longer be described as the 'self-proclaimed' Cowboy Capital of the World. We're now the real thing." Goodley had served as prime mover behind the Texas legislative decision.
