Free home defense class offered

A free class, "Home Defense with Firearms," will be offered from 9 am until 5 pm, Saturday, August 10, at the Bar-B-Bar Ranch in Tarpley. Class instructor will be Precinct 4 Constable Rod Chalmers.
The class will be limited to nine students on a first come-first basis. Additional classes will be offered in the future; however, those interested in attending are urged to place their names on a waiting list as soon as possible. Reservations will be made in the order in which they are received.
Class participants must provide their own home defense firearm and at least 18 rounds of ammunition. Additional time will be provided for those who want to bring more ammunition and do additional shooting for skills development.
This is not a Concealed Handgun License class, and there will be no certifications. This class is designed to familiarization participants with both firearms used for home defense and the laws covering the use of deadly force. Target audience is Bandera County women, but reservations will be taken for a future men's class if demand warrants.
Participants should already be familiar with the firearm they have selected for home defense and be able to load, unload and manipulate that firearm safely before attending this class.
Additionally, individual coaching from firearms professionals will be available for live-fire on the firing range to offer additional training and skills development.
Following live-fire, students will receive classroom instruction and participate in a discussion on the use of deadly force in defense of home and person; firearms and ammunition suitable for home defense; mental preparation for the use of deadly force; firearms safety in the home; and other related subject matter.
