Yet another scam skims through Bandera
By Carolyn B. Edwards BCC Staff Writer
The residents of Bandera County are never immune to the latest scam buzzing across the nation. According to one local resident, the most recent one comes right out of Washington, DC.
"I got a phone call from a 202 area code," said the resident. "A man identifying himself as Adam Reynolds said he was a US Customs Agent."
The faux agent spun a tale to the local woman about $796,000 held in Miami by Customs. It was not made clear how an elderly woman from Bandera was needed to play a key role in "releasing" this pile of money.
However, Reynolds gave the woman the name and number of the "attorney" handling the case, so she could verify the situation.
"I didn't call," reported the savvy potential victim. "But in about 15 minutes the 'attorney' called me!"
She got rid of the crook by hanging up after telling him, "Good luck with your next sucker!"
As always, be careful not to give any important information such as your social security number, bank account numbers or charge card numbers to anyone that you do not know.
As for the $796,000? Well, that old saying got it right - "if it sounds too good to be true...!
