Inmate commits suicide at county jail

By Judith Pannebaker BCC Editor

Bandera County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Matt King announced on Thursday, July 11, that an inmate at the Bandera County Jail had apparently committed suicide on Wednesday, July 10.
According to King, when an unidentified jailer delivered dinner to Justin Richardson Brown, 24, shortly before 5 pm, she found him non-responsive. The jailer immediately began administering CPR and continued until EMS personnel arrived. After taking over the CPR for a period of time, EMS personnel checked Brown's vital signs and found no signs of life. Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Lynn Holt pronounced Brown dead at 5:28 pm.
Brown had been incarcerated in the jail since the end of April after he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.
Prior to his suicide, Brown had been transferred to a single cell. King said that jailers had followed standard operating procedures when dealing with the inmate. "He had given no indication or intent about committing suicide," King said. "If he had, we would have implemented special procedures that include visual monitoring every 15 minutes."
The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
