Farm Bill advances from House, Senate Ag Committees

All eyes are on Washington DC as legislators in the nation's capital work to cut spending while also maintaining funding for programs that help feed American families and provide a safety net to American farmers and ranchers.

Both the Senate and House Agricultural Committees have passed their respective versions of the farm bill, according to Bandera County Farm Bureau President Barbara Mazurek.

"There are differences between the two proposals, but we hope, for the sake of the people who rely on the programs in the farm bill, that legislators are able to work out their differences and pass a full, five year farm bill," she said.

Both bills now move on to their respective chambers for consideration by the full body of legislators. If approved there, the bill will move to a conference committee comprised of members from both houses.
