Castro to speak at Democrat gathering

The Bandera County Democrats will have a special guest speaker at their monthly meeting on Saturday, June 8. Rosie Castro, mother of San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and Joaquin Castro, US Congressman, will speak at 1:30 pm in the Bandera Electric Co-op Community Room on the topic of "Turning Texas Blue".
The public is invited the hear this important speaker.
"Rosie Castro is a long time activist, and influence to her twin sons, Julian and Joaquin Castro. She believed in trying to make a difference by getting involved politically," said a spokesman.
Castro, 65, has spoken of her work with La Raza Unida, a third political party born of racial tensions in 1970s Southwest Texas, and of her city council bid with a slate of candidates backed by the Committee for Barrio Betterment. She registered voters, identified candidates, block walked, ran campaigns and served as La Raza's Bexar County chairwoman.
The club's business meeting will be held at noon, appetizers and drinks will be served at 1 pm.
