Historic cars shine at RiverFest Open Car Show

Copntributed

Car buffs are advised not to miss the Open Car Show at the 15th annual Bandera RiverFest, held at Bandera City Park, Saturday, June 29. Sponsored by Cecil Atkission Ford of Hondo, the show features historic vehicles polished and sparkling like the day they rolled off the assembly line.

Show patrons can not only enjoy the cars but they can also dust off what they might have in the barn or garage, and come to the banks of the Medina River and show it off. Drive it, trailer it or haul it - you might just win one of the trophies.

People from Bandera and the surrounding area - and from across Texas - will be on hand to join the fun and show off their "wheels" for the day.

The car show offers all a chance to vote for their favorite vehicle. The top 20 with the most votes will win wonderful trophies designed by renowned sculptor Esther Benedict. Other presentations include the President's Award, Sponsor's Award, Mayor's Award, Best of Show, and People's Choice.

This year, there will also be a special award - "The Texas Street Custom" - sponsored by Texas Street Customs. Texas Street Customs specializes in complete car restoration and have some of their restored vehicles on display. Texas Street Custom will select the winning car for the special award.

In conjunction with the RiverFest Open Car Show, a car part swap meet also takes place Saturday, June 29. Those with car parts scattered everywhere are advised to pack 'em up, head out to the swap meet, stick a "For Sale" sign on 'em and see what happens! Whatever you bring, you're sure going to have fun.

The 16th annual Bandera Riverfest also features lots of water activities, including a river rodeo, kayak races, the always- hilarious, "Anything that Floats Regatta" river parade, a CTBA Barbecue Cook-off, arts and crafts and nonstop music, including the Bandera Idol competition and finals.

Gates open at 10 am and admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for seniors 55 years and older. Active military with proper identification and children ages 12 years and under are free.
