Advice for preventing fire destruction

Contributed

Eight Hill Country Master Gardeners are now part of a Texas state corps of firewise landscape experts and educators.
Firewise, a project of the National Fire Protection association, describes ways for neighbors to work together to prevent fire destruction.
The training, conducted by the Texas Forest Service, includes information on protecting homes from fire, designing landscaping that discourages fire, evaluating an existing home and gaining information on livestock evacuation for herd owners.
"Texas continues to experience extreme weather, including wind and drought, which makes this area ripe for wildfires," said Anne Brown, who completed the course. "We now have a team who will visit your home and suggest ways to protect your property".
In addition to Brown, the team includes Master Gardeners Deborah Russell, Betty West, Dusty Gilliam, Carol Hagemeier, Leigh Thomas, Gavin Walston and John LaRoche.
Any property owner can request a visit and evaluation free of charge by call the Texas AgriLife Extension office at 830-257-6568.
