Bar-B-Q cookers shine at Wild Hog Explosion

The Bandera Library's 11th Annual Wild Hog Explosion is gearing up for another wild and crazy event - that includes not only the exciting hog catch, but also the Central Texas Barbecue Association-sanctioned Bar-B-Q Cook-Off.
Last year, when 30-plus teams gathered to show off their cooking skills, one of the best things that come off the grills were pork ribs - big and juicy, thick with sauce with meat just falls off the bone ... SOOOOWEE ... that's something really good!
Those "meat-falling-off-the-bone" ribs will be available at the 11th annual Wild Hog Explosion, slated for Saturday, March 16, at Mansfield Park.
Each year the wild and crazy Wild Hog Explosion features a hair-raising hog catch, arts and crafts, all bike rally and a CTBA-sanctioned cook-off where some of the best cookers in the Lone Star State compete for grand champion.
Those who think they're the best at cooking barbecue invited to participate. The 11h annual Wild Hog Explosion will benefit the Bandera County Public Library.
All CTBA rules apply to this sanctioned cook-off. Each cooking team must have a designated chief cook and at least three assistants. Cooking teams will be judged for Best Chicken, Best Pork Ribs and Best Brisket. Additional competitions include Best Beans, Best Theme, People's Choice and Most Unique Pit. Winners will receive great trophies designed by local artist Esther Benedict - and bragging rights for a year. Cash prizes will be awarded for first place in meat categories only.
Additional competitions include the Bloody Mary Competition with judging for beginning at 10 am on Saturday morning and the Best Margarita with judging at 4:30 pm. The drink competitions are open to everyone without entry fees. Participants do not need to be in a cook team to enter any the drink competitions, however, CTBA rules apply.
