The Utopia VFD will soon have a new 2013 Freightliner 4x4 to provide the department with more versatility and is expected to be delivered in March. This vehicle will serve as the primary rescue vehicle for the Utopia and Vanderpool ESD and will be used for mutual aid in the surrounding areas. The Utopia VFD has the distinction of performing rope and angled mountain rescues at Garner State Park, which is the busiest park in the state of Texas. This summer, the department performed 18 rescues during the summer months there. The community grant is one of a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA's Community Development Partnership Program. The program provides economic development and community assistance grants to cities, counties, volunteer fire departments, regional development councils and other nonprofit organizations in LCRA's electric and water service areas.
