Earnest selected BEC director

The Bandera Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BEC) board of directors recently selected Richard "Dick" Earnest, of Concan, to fill the District 6 position left vacant after the resignation of Kerry Sweatt. The board interviewed a number of candidates before making a final selection.
According to Board President Don Enders, "Dick has an excellent understanding of the electric distribution business as a result of his previous employment. That experience will benefit Bandera Electric's members-owners and result in a shorter transition period for him."
Prior to a 35 year career with Central Power and Light (CP&L - now known as AEP) in the marketing, management and customer service area, Earnest served in the US Army. Through his experience with CP&L, Earnest was involved in various policy making decisions ranging from energy efficiency programs to customer incentives and rate making. He currently serves on the board for Concan Water Supply Corp., Frio Comanche Crossing Homeowners and the Concan Volunteer Fire Department.
After retiring, Earnest and his wife of 48 years built a home in Concan and settled in the area. They have two children and five grandchildren. Of his selection, Earnest said, "I look forward to working with the board. It will be an honor to serve the members of Bandera Electric."
As required by law, Earnest will serve as director until the next annual membership meeting in May 2013. At that meeting, he will be up for election by the membership, should he choose to run, along with any other eligible candidates. There are nine directors on the board.
"We are very pleased to have Dick Earnest join us as a member of the BEC board of directors. He comes to us with an impressive resume of experience and knowledge that will help him represent the Concan, Leakey and Hunt areas well," said Bobby Waid, CEO/General Manager.
