'Wags to Witches' promotes animal-friendly women's shelters
Littlegrass Ranch is inviting all dog owners to dress up their pet and bring them to their "Wags to Witches" Dog Fashion Show and Costume Contest from 9:30 am until 2 pm, Saturday, Oct. 6, at Joshua Springs Park and Preserve, located off Interstate 10 between Boerne and Comfort.
Owners can enter their dogs in categories such as Best Pet Owner Look-A-Like, Best Holiday Costume, Best Group, and Best Undressed Pet. There will be special categories for owners under age 14 and over age 80.
Judging begins at noon.
The event is designed for National SAF-T® Day to promote and raise awareness of domestic violence shelters that provide on-site housing for pets. Littlegrass Ranch is a Hill Country nonprofit offering transitional housing for victims of domestic violence with their horses; large animals, including livestock; and pets.
Joshua Springs Park and Preserve offers hiking, birding and other outdoor activities. There will be a covered pavilion with shade so the event will be held rain or shine.
Volunteers will offer $5 pony rides, and professional photographer Jessie Slaton of New Braunfels will be on hand for pet photos.
Entries are $10 per class entered.
Owners can sign up online at www.littlegrassranch.com. All participants will receive prizes and ribbons and the first 50 entries will receive free dog leashes.
All dogs must show proof of vaccination and must be on a leash at all times. Owners are asked to bring water and food for their own pets, and to be responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
