Texmaniacs return to Schreiner Coffeehouse

Max Baca and David Farias of the Grammy award-winning Max Baca y Los Texmaniacs will return to Schreiner University from 7 pm until 9 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 5.

They will perform at the Texas Music Coffeehouse, located in The Lion's Den at the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center on the Schreiner campus. The Texas Music Coffeehouse series is series free and open to the public.

A virtuoso on the bajo sexto - aka "sixth bass" - a guitar-like 12-string instrument, Baca has appeared in several PBS documentaries and on Austin City Limits.

Farias plays accordion for Baca's group and helped transform his family band "Los Hermanos Farias" into the Tejano super group "La Tropa F." He became a member of the Tejano music hall of fame 2007.

Baca and Farias, along with the rest of the band, won a Grammy for their 2009 CD, Borders & Bailes. Their newest release is Texas Towns & Tex-Mex Sounds. The Texas Music Coffeehouse is co-sponsored by Schreiner's Center for Innovative Studies, the Texas Heritage Music Foundation, Schreiner Student Activities Board and Chi Phi fraternity.
