Tarpley VFD annual BBQ Sunday, Sept. 2

The Tarpley VFD will hold it annual fund raising barbecue this Sunday, Sept. 2, at the fire department grounds in downtown Tarpley on FM 470.

Keeping to long-time tradition, there will be a parade, silent and live auctions and live music entertainment.

The parade kicks off at 11 am with the line-up scheduled for 10:30.

Serving of the delicious barbecue begins immediately after the parade.

The silent auction runs from 11 am to 1 pm and the live auction begins at 1:30. Live musical entertainment will be provided by the Gary Wright Band.

Anyone with donations for either auction should contact Curtis Kosub at 830-426-9317 to arrange for pick up of the items and to get the donations on the auction list.

Funds raised at the annual barbecue held defray maintenance and operating expenses for the fire department. The funds also help the department apply for grants.

The department is now also raising money by rental of the beautifully renovated Old Tarpley School Building, now known as the Tarpley VFD Training and Community Center. To rent the facility, contact Anton Haner at 830-796-5380. It seats up to 80 people at tables and offers an updated kitchen.

The Tarpley VFD now has personnel trained as First Responders, Swift Water Rescue, and High Angle Rescue.

Volunteers are always welcome, not only to serve as fire fighters, but to work at the barbecue, buy and sell raffle tickets, help with clean-up and other activities. Contact Kosub or Haner to volunteer.
