Bandera County Commissioners have proposed an ad valorem tax rate of $0.6769 per $100 valuation for next year.
"This is the first time a proposed tax has been below the effective tax rate," said County Judge Richard Evans during a Thursday, August 23, meeting.
A public hearing on the proposed rate will be held during a regular commissioners court meeting, beginning at 10 am, Thursday, Sept. 13. A special public hearing will be held at 7 pm, Thursday, Sept. 20, in the second floor courtroom at the Bandera County Courthouse.
During a regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 27, commissioners will hold a third public hearing, beginning at 10 am, and adopt the tax rate as well as the budget for FY 2012-2013.
"We're scheduling these public hearings in the spirit of transparency," Evans said. "This is a good thing, but it's not done because the law mandates it."
