Last call for dam's 100th birthday

Built in 1912, the Medina Lake Dam turns 100 on Saturday, August 25, and members of the Medina Lake Preservation Society will sponsor an all-day, all-free centennial celebration.

Birthday events include an opening ceremony with international dignitaries at 10 am, a memorial commemorating the workers who died during dam construction, a professional water ski exhibition, historical and photographic exhibits, an underwater fountain display and outdoor movie.

Additionally, the day's activities will culminate at the Lakehills Civic Center with the "Medina Dam Jam" - nonstop live music provided by the Vinyl 45's, shown above, along with Spider Johnson, Rodney Joe Smith and Alan Chapman, and other musicians.

All activities will take place around the lake and at the Bedrock Resort, 6750 CR 271, in Mico and the civic center, 11225 Park Road 37, in Lakehills.
