Stonehenge II rocks

Things are rockin' at Stonehenge II with The Point Theatre's production of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." The last two performances are 8:30 pm, Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18, at the unique Texas landmark in Ingram.

"The Taming of the Shrew" centers on the shrewish Katherine, daughter to Baptista and sister to Bianca. While Bianca has many suitors, Katherine's poor demeanor has brought her no interested parties. To fend off Bianca's suitors, Baptista announces that no man may court Bianca until Katherine is wed. Several of the suitors disguise themselves as tutors in order to get closer to Bianca, and one suitor hires the roguish Petruccio to tame the shrew Katherine. A battle between the sexes begins that ends in a battle of wills in Shakespeare's high-spirited comedy.

The Point has given the classic comedy a new twist by mounting the production at Stonehenge II. The production staff has used traditional Renaissance style with punk rock details.

"The 'Renai-punk' style is reflected through the set, costumes, and especially the music," said artistic director Lorenzo Nichols. "Director Bobby Sands has created an updated approach to Shakespeare that will please audiences."

Sands commented that the cast and the production staff truly embraced his concept for the show, each person bringing their individual talents and creativity to the production.

Seating at Stonehenge will be provided and all seating is reserved for all performances. No outside food or drinks are allowed. Concessions will be available before the show and at intermission and include beer, wine, water soft drinks and snacks.

Concessions are cash purchase only.

Last Saturday's performance sold out so Point Theatre box office staff recommends theatre patrons purchase tickets immediately due to limited seating.

Tickets for the remaining performances on August 17 and 18 for "The Taming of the Shrew" are $15 for adults and $10 for youths ages 12 years and under.
