(Editor's note: Calls to the Bandera County Sheriff's Office for clarification on the charges were not returned. For this reason, the Bandera County Courier is withholding the name of the suspect at this time. The Courier was attempting to ascertain if the alleged rape was statutory in nature and the child porn charge a result of "sexting" to the suspect's cell phone - or if the suspect has a history of a violent sexual perdition.)

A recent investigation of a vehicle parked on Highway 16 North ultimately led to the arrest of a man for sexual assault and possession of child pornography, according to a press release received on Monday, July 16, from Chief Deputy Richard Smith of the Bandera County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 4 pm, Saturday, July 14, a call to Bandera County's 9-1-1 emergency dispatch indicated that a suspicious vehicle was parked on the side of the complainant's driveway in the 4000 block of Highway 16 North.

When the patrol deputy arrived on the scene, he observed the vehicle leaving the area. However, while the vehicle remained on the complainant's property, the deputy stopped the vehicle and initiated an investigation. This led to the arrest of 18-year-old Austin resident for felony sexual assault of a juvenile female.

As the investigation proceeded, the suspect was also charged with felony possession of child pornography.

After being booked into the jail at the law enforcement center on July 14, the suspect posted bond and was released the next day. Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Lynn Holt had set the bonds at $20,000 for the sexual assault and $10,000 for possession of child pornography.

"At this time, evidence collected in conjunction with this case has been sent to a lab for analysis," Smith said, adding, "Due to the sensitive nature of the case, no further details will be released at this time."
