Celebrating Earth Day in Bandera

Members of the Madrona Garden Club welcomed fifth graders from Hill Country Elementary School to an observance of Earth Day 2012 at Bandera City Park on the Medina River.

As Karen Ripley, a director of the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District, explained, Bandera's celebration took place on Friday, May 4, rather than Sunday, April 22, because "this was the first time we could get all the kids together."

After a short program of songs, poems and "wise words," an oleander shrub was planted at City Park in commemoration of the 42nd Earth Day.
