CCRA to host cook-off & golf tourney


The Cowboy Capital Rodeo Association will host its fifth annual "Get Your Cook-On" Barbecue Cook-Off from 9 am to 4 pm, Saturday, May 26, under the shade trees at the Mansfield RV Park.

Cook-off teams will compete in three meat categories - brisket, chicken and pork ribs. Categories for the Jackpot contests include "Best In The West" pinto beans, "Buckin' Bloody Marys" and "Think Yours Is The Best?" open meat category, which can be any type of meat except brisket, chicken and pork ribs.

Cash prices will be awarded to the Grand Champion and the Reserve Grand Champion as well as first through third places in the meat and Jackpot categories. In addition, the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will each receive a silver handcrafted belt buckle from Hy-O-Silver. Banners will be awarded to first through third place winners in the meat categories.

Entry forms may be mailed to the address on the form or dropped off at the NAPA Auto Parts Store, 2384 State Highway 16 South.

The awards ceremony will begin at 5 pm in the Mansfield Park Rec Hall. "Come on out to Mansfield Park and enjoy samples provided by the cook-off teams," urged a CCRA cook-off spokesman. "The event is free to the public."

Proceeds from the "Get Your Cook-On" Barbecue Cook-Off benefit the Cowboy Capital Rodeo Association Youth College Scholarship Fund. Sanctioned by Lone Star BBQ Society, the cook-off is a State Championship Qualifier Meet.

In addition, the Boot Kickin' Golf Tournament will begin at 8 am, Sunday, May 27, the Flying L Golf Course. Format for the golf tournament will be a four-person Florida scramble with payoff based on the number of teams entered. Prizes will be awarded to the longest drive and closest to the pin.

Entry fee is $65 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch and door prizes. Mulligans will be sold for $5 each with a minimum of two per person and a door prize will be awarded from the Mulligan sales.

Sponsorship packages are still available. A $350 sponsorship includes entry fees for four players, a hole sponsorship sign and four rodeo tickets. A $200 sponsorship includes entry fees for two players, a hole sponsorship sign and two rodeo tickets. A $50 sponsorship will have a hole sign.
