Final call for Invitational Appreciation Gathering & Trail Ride

An Invitational Appreciation Gathering and Trail Ride at the Hill Country State Natural Area will take place Saturday, May 5, for anyone who has made at least a $50 donation to support the Brighter Days Horse Refuge. Those who donated by May 1 will receive a free ticket for a prize drawing.

Riders arriving after 2 pm on Friday, May 4 or early Saturday morning must stop by park headquarters and present a negative Coggins and to register vehicles. There will also be a $3 per person per day park fee for those without an annual pass. Reimbursement will be made at the campsite.

Leanne and Jeanne Beauxbeannes are coordinating the ride and other area guest ranches will participate by opening their trails or providing western meals.

After a breakfast sponsored by the Flying L Guest Ranch, the trail ride will head out between 9 am and 9:30 am Saturday morning from the scenic 5,000-acre HCSNA, located 10 miles west of Bandera.

The ride will meander to neighboring dude ranches, including Rancho Cortez, with a stop at the Silver Spur Ranch for lunch. After the midday meal, the ride will continue through the Running R Guest Ranch and head back to the HCSNA at Chapa's Group Camp for Kelly Scott's Chuck Wagon supper, sponsored by Jeanne Parker of Frontier Town in Bandera.

Dessert donations would be appreciated.

Russell and Marci Tiner of Cross T Ranch will provide rental horses and a wrangler for the ride. For more information, call 210-291-2921.

Additionally, non-riders can take advantage of covering the trail in a covered wagon for an extra $50. The wagon master will collect the fee on Saturday morning.

Auctions will be held at the completion of the ride and before supper. Donations are still being accepted for the silent and live auctions slated for Saturday night.

Auction items can be dropped off at Bunkhouse Leather, 1207 Cedar Street, or at the HCSNA Park Headquarters or brought to the trail ride.

Camping at the park at Chapas will be included the night before and the night after the ride; however, rigs must depart by noon on Sunday, May 6.

Some electric hook-ups will be available for campers at an added fee.

"This should be a real fun way to help the Brighter Days Horse Refuge care for their 98 horses in a time of great need," said a spokesman for the event.
