FFA horse & livestock judging teams state bound

The Bandera High School FFA Horse and Livestock Judging teams competed in the Area VII Judging contests held Saturday, April 14, at Texas A&M University, and both qualified to move up to state level competition.

The Horse Judging team placed second and competed at the state contest, Saturday, April 21, at Texas Tech University. Team members are Alix Hay, Grace Cleaver, Sarah Butler, and Cheyanne Jenkins. Team coach is Tessa Gamble.

Earning individual honors were Alix Hay, fourth place, and Grace Cleaver, sixth place.

In 2011, the Horse Judging Team under the direction of Gamble were the Area and State FFA champs and received eleventh place at the National FFA judging contest.

"Our goal is to repeat a state championship!" said Tessa Gamble. "We have a group of very strong judges who have done well all year, and continue to improve with each contest. I am very proud of them all!"

The Livestock Judging team placed second and will also compete at the state contest to be held Saturday, May 5, at Texas A&M University.

Team members are Corey Flach, Katie Mangold, Cody Mayfield, and Courtney Flach. Team coach is Fulton Pizzini.

Individual honors received were Cody Mayfield who placed second.

"They are a strong group with a lot of talent," said Pizzini. "Corey, Katie, and Cody have been together as a team for the past three years. They are tough competitors who have been very successful."

In 2011, the Livestock Judging Team under the direction of Pizzini placed twentieth at State.

Other accomplishments for the horse judging team this year include ninth place at McLennan Junior College on March 21, third place at West Texas A&M on March 23, and fifth at Clarendon College on March 24.
