Schreiner 2012 Recall features golf, banquet & vintage cars

Announcement

Recall, Schreiner University's homecoming weekend, will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 20, 21 and 22 and feature great events for former students and the community members.

The weekend kicks off every year with the annual Randy Shepler Alumni Golf Tournament at Riverhills Country Club. The 2012 tournament will be sponsored by Ken Stoepel Ford-Lincoln with tournament proceeds donated to the Hill Country College Fund, a Schreiner scholarship fund that benefits students in Bandera, Edwards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble and Real counties.

Most of the tournament field will be current and former Schreiner students, but community golfers also are welcome. The fee is $125 and the field is capped at 96 players.

The tournament will start at 1 pm, Friday, April 20.

Vicki Mullins, class of 1998 and assistant art director of creative services at Schreiner, will be the guest alumni artist. An exhibit of her artwork will be presented on the second mezzanine of the Floyd & Kathleen Cailloux Campus Activity Center.

There will be a reception in her honor 3 pm to 5 pm, on Saturday on the CCAC mezzanine.

The exhibit will run through Saturday, April 28.

Other weekend events will include an annual parade with this year's Mardi Gras theme that will feature the Fredericksburg Vintage Car Club.

The parade starts at 11 am, travels around the loop clockwise and ends at the Robbins-Lewis Pavilion.

After the parade, the vintage cars will be on display near the pavilion.

Other popular events are the Military Breakfast on Saturday morning and the Tribute to Schreiner Legends Banquet that evening.

Golden Grads from the class of 1962 will be recognized during the breakfast.

The banquet this year will honor Roy Q. Minton as Schreiner's newest Distinguished Alumnus, and Dick Harben and Laurence Becker will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Honor.

Other popular annual events include the recognition of Schreiner's silver grads, this year those from 1987, campus tours and the family picnic. For the third year, a "Shoot with Schreiner Champions" will take place at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center. The Schreiner Shooting Sports Society has had a stellar year, with a good chance for a 2012 US Olympian in the offing.

The Schreiner University dining hall will be closed to the public on Saturday, April 21, but will reopen for brunch on Sunday, April 22.
