Bandera FOL bingo fundraiser set for Sunday

By Julie Whitmore Library Contributor

Book clubs and bestsellers don't exactly bring bingo to mind, but the Bandera County Public Library's faithful patrons have many talents, and bingo is one of our most popular.

At last year's lovely bingo event the tobacco smoke was too much for many of those attending. So this year the FOL will sponsor a non-smoking bingo fundraiser and accompanying white elephant sale from 2 pm until 5 pm, Sunday, Feb. 19. Doors open at 1 pm and play begins at 2 pm.

Packets of cards are $15.50 and $17.50, and of course there will be cash prizes. There will be no smoking. Coffee and desserts will be available.

In addition, this year participants can begin their Christmas shopping early or just pick up something for themselves at the new-to-you White Elephant Sale. Donated items include a bicycle, Pampered Chef kitchen items, a collectible Wolf Legend sheathed knife, and many other items, including some beautiful coffee-table volumes.

The only function of the nonprofit Friends of the Library organization is to raise money for books, audio and e-books, and magazines for the library. Since this year's loss of the library's state Lone Star grants, every small sum becomes even more important. FOL appreciates everyone's support.

Fear not, insatiable smokers, proceeds from the American Legion Post 157's regular Wednesday evening session on Wednesday, Feb. 29, will also benefit the library. If bingo is your game, come to both!

Post 157 is located at 205 12th Street, across from the Bandera Ice House.
