First complaint filed with TEC

By Judith Pannebaker BCC Editor

In this "unusual" election cycle with accusations, criticisms and charges flying behind the scenes, it was only a matter of time before a formal complaint was filed with the Texas Ethics Commission in Austin.

A complaint, filed last week, involved the placing of a political sign on private property without permission. The citizen was allegedly threatened with legal action should the sign be removed. The offending sign was immediately taken down and the complaint filed shortly thereafter.

Candidates are required to seek permission from property and homeowners prior to placing political signs. In Texas - as elsewhere, that's just considered good manners.

Or, as was pointed out, "If a candidate really doesn't know to ask permission beforehand, do we really want that person in elected office?"
