TCEQ Holds Dam Safety Workshops

Personnel with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will sponsor two one-day workshops on dam safety in February. The first one will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11, in New Braunfels at the Courtyard New Braunfels River Village, 750 Interstate 35 North. The second session will take place on Thursday, Feb. 25, in Decatur at the Decatur Civic Center, 2010 West Highway 380.
Workshop hours are from 9 am to 1:30 pm with registration beginning at 8:30 am.

The one-day sessions will educate dam owners about relevant considerations, including state dam safety laws and regulations, dam failure modes and case histories, owner responsibilities and liabilities and security issues, dam operations, maintenance, inspections and developing and implementing emergency action plans.

Cost of each workshop is $65, which includes lunch and refreshment breaks. Participants will also receive a copy of the workshop manual and the opportunity to speak individually with TCEQ dam safety personnel. Walk-in and on-site registrations will be accepted.

Registration deadline for the New Braunfels event is Thursday, Feb. 4, and Thursday, Feb. 18, for the Decatur event.
Registration and workshop information is available at the “Dam Safety Workshop for Owners and Operators” page on the TCEQ website, or contact Warren Samuelson at wsamuels@tceq.state.tx.us or 512-239-5195.
