Spring Beef Cattle Workshop scheduled
The Spring Beef Cattle Workshop Friday will take place from 3 pm to 6 pm, Friday, May 16. The program will begin at the Mansfield Park Recreation Center, 2886 Highway 16 North, in Bandera and conclude at the Flying A Ranch.
"With low inventory numbers and high cattle prices, there appears to be a renewed interest in beef production," said Sam Womble, Bandera County Extension Agent. "More and more landowners are looking at cattle as a management tool to enhance their production system."
Topics will include "Basic Considerations for Getting Started in the Cattle Business," "Nutrition 101," "Facilities and Cattle Handling" and "Niche Markets."
Presenters are Dr. Rick Machen, extension livestock specialist, Uvalde; Keith Lake, wildlife biologist, Flying A Ranch; and Brent Trussell, wildlife biologist, Flying A Ranch. The program will also feature hands-on demonstrations.
Cost is $15 person and includes refreshments. Contact the Bandera County Extension Office at 830-796-7755 by Friday, May 9, to register.
The program is sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee.
