Perry extends drought proclamation
Although parts of Texas received some much-needed rain in July, Bandera County still is experiencing extreme drought conditions.
The threat posed by the ongoing drought prompted Texas Governor Rick Perry to again extend the emergency disaster proclamation that was initially issued July 5, 2011, according to Barbara Mazurek, Bandera County Farm Bureau president.
"Prolonged dry conditions continue to increase the wildfire threat for Bandera County," Mazurek said. "In addition, dry conditions are having an impact on aquifer and reservoir levels statewide and are impacting the local agricultural economy."
The extension of the declaration allows the counties listed in the proclamation access to resources to aid in response efforts.
