The Bandera County 4-H Horse Project made a good appearance at the District 10 Horse show held in Seguin at the Guadalupe Fairgrounds this summer. Four girls competed in several events and came away with numerous awards.
Macey Gratteau, who competes in Western and English disciplines, competed in six events, coming home with awards in four of them. She took first place honors in Hunter Under Saddle and earned the champion buckle. She also placed 4th in Halter Geldings, 6th in Hunter Showmanship, 3rd in Trail, 12th in Western Horsemanship, and 12th in Western Showmanship.
In the speed events, Nikki Sandidge, Rayni Sandidge, and Hannah Buettner competed. In the Barrel Racing, Buettner took first and brought home the Champion Barrel Racer buckle.
Buettner also brought home the Reserve Timed Champion buckle for the speed events. In Pole Bending, Nikki Sandidge placed 9th and Buettner 6th.
In the stake race, Buettner took second and Rayni Sandidge came in 16th.
Unfortunately, due to prior obligations, none of the girls were able to compete at the State 4-H Horse Show in Abilene.
Anyone interested in joining 4-H or the Horse Project, should come out to the Join 4-H Enrollment Night Bash, set for Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Mansfield Park Showbarn from 5 - 7 pm or contact the Bandera County Extension office at 796-7755 for more information.
