If it’s the end of January, it must be Wild Game Dinner

By Judith Pannebaker

The 22nd annual Wild Game Dinner at the Grace Lutheran Church Saturday, Jan. 30, turned out to be not only an extremely successful fundraiser, but a lip-smacking one as well.

From the time the doors open at 4 pm until the closing bell at 7 pm, seating in the main room was at a premium – and the line waiting for volunteers to pile plates with javelina, whitetail, axis, blackbuck and rattlesnake tidbits never seem to get any shorter.

Determined to get my money’s worth at this all-you-can-eat gourmand buffet, I devoured wild game till I nearly burst.

However, while writing this article at 5 pm on Sunday, I’m feeling more than a little peckish. I sure wish I had an extra helping of that hot and tasty fried blackbuck antelope. I guess I’ll just have to wait until the 23rd Wild Game Dinner fundraiser in January 2011 to assuage my appetite.
