Old-fashioned Kerr County Christmas
Contributed
A Kerr County Christmas, the last of the 2009 Kerr County Market Days, offers a great opportunity to view the work of more than 90 artists, crafters and artisans to help shoppers find the perfect Christmas gift. The event takes place from 9 am until 4 pm, Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Kerr County Courthouse.
Food and drink will also be available along with holiday music from Chuck Eisler and the Dietert Pickers and some drop-in musical guests. Items for the home include vases and bowls made from turned wood or pottery, handcrafted mosaic and stone tables, wooden furniture pieces, metal wine racks, quilts and candles. New vendor Steve Kraft brings throw pillows made from exotic hides and Linda Fenimore will have her intricate handmade baskets. Other decorative items include large wooden stars, birdhouses and sandblasted tiles.
A large selection of personal items will include clothing, scarves and accessories, jewelry, soaps, leather goods, pens and knives. Crosses made of stone, sand, wood and metal are always popular along with the religious and inspirational wood art fashioned by John Chamberlin.
Market Days Showcase Artist of the Month is Medina resident Carole Boyd, an emerging digital fine artist whose work is exhibited at River’s Edge Gallery on Water Street. Boyd will be at Market Days to show and discuss her work.
Using only a mouse as a brush, Carole’s paintings are original digital art and not altered or manipulated photographs. They span categories from surrealism to realism, impressionism to illustrations and even fine line drawings. Animals are frequent subjects of her paintings.
Additionally the works of other artists will be on display including Peggy Burnezky’s oil paintings, the photography of Stacie Erxleben and Joe Pratt and metal sculptures from Backyard Customs and Bob Tomson.
Baked goods will be available along with sweet roasted nuts, kettle corn, barbecue sandwiches from Buzzie’s, roasted corn, lemonade and hot drinks.
A Kerr County Christmas is a great place for a fun family outing and pets on leash are always welcome.
