‘Buddy’ Hubble celebrates 89th
By Elizabeth James
Over 70 relatives arrived at Lafours Restaurant in Kerrville Saturday, Feb. 7, to honor Medina’s HW “Buddy” Hubble on his 89th birthday.
Six of the nine living Hubble children attended the patriarch’s party, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The festive John Deere motif included a myriad of yellow and green balloons and a birthday cake decorated in yellow and green icing. The cake also featured miniature John Deere farm implements and candles.
Prior to the delicious seafood dinner, Hubble’s son, Robert, asked the blessing. Before the cake was served, everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to the honoree while he blew out the lighted candles.
Two other birthdays were celebrated during the evening. Hubble’s granddaughter, Donna Evans, was born on his birthday. In addition, her sister, Casey, the daughter of the late Gail Hubble Evans, was born on Feb. 8.
Hubble served as Bandera County Precinct 3 Commissioner for 16 years. He later served as Precinct 3 foreman until the commissioners converted the four separate precincts road and bridge departments to a unit system. At that time, commissioners appointed Hubble supervisor of the countywide road and bridge maintenance.
As foreman and supervisor, he was employed by Bandera County an additional 15 years, serving a total of 31 years as a county employee prior to his retirement.
With his faithful John Deere, Hubble is still in demand to shred grass and weeds for friends and neighbors.
