This year's schedule offers opportunities for beginner and experienced art student with a wide variety of interests.

Kicking off the schedule in January and February are classes in ceramics.

"Handbuilding with Clay," taught by J'Nil Jackson, is an excellent place to start an adventure into clay.

Whether your goal is to continue to develop handbuilding skills or to learn to use the potter's wheel, this class will provide important groundwork and vital information about working with clay. Students will learn, pinch coil and slab methods.

Classes will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from Jan. 17 throught Jan. 26.

"Glaze and Firing Technique," also instructed by Jackson, will guide students through the process of taking their bisque ware to a finished piece of decorative or functional ware. Students will also receive instruction on studio safety practices that are necessary to work independently in the studio.

Classes will be 6 pm to 9 pm, Tuesday and Thursday evenings on Feb. 7-9 and Feb. 21-23.

Tuition is $100.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 30, students can learn the art of pottery making on the potter's wheel.

This workshop will be an extensive hands-on approach to beginning pottery with emphasis on wheel throwing by master potter Mark Jackson.

Beginners will learn basic wheel skills - centering, opening, pulling, shaping trimming and finishing, as well as preparation for glazing. As a beginner, the student will be making variations on the basic cylinder, such as mugs, vases, and bowls.
